How to get started with Machine Learning?

This post is an attempt to learn how to make machines learn i.e learning machine learning. In this blog, I am going to tell you about where to start, which language to choose etc if you want to learn Machine Learning(ML). And, don't worry if the first statement of this post seemed confusing ;P. The whole post will be easy enough to be understood by an undergrad. Step 1: ML101- Andrew Ng This is the guy who brought me to this wondrous world of Machine Learning. He has a free course running on Coursera  website. The course is  Machine Learning by Stanford . Introduction: This course talks about the following: Motivation for ML Different algorithms/models like Regression, Neural Networks, SVM etc used in ML. Advice for applying Machine Learning in real life problems Practical ML problems like recommendation systems How to make most of it: They have around 11 weeks of study. Each week has some video lectures, a quiz and a programming assignment. Try to do

Google SDE Interview Experience (On-campus)

In this post, I'll be telling you about how I landed into an interview with Team Google. I didn't get an offer but then my experience can be useful for other aspirants. Overall the interview was of intermediate level. Online Coding test: It all started with one of the Google Kickstart competition. Kickstart is an online coding competition from which top participants are invited for an interview at Google. It has various independent rounds all along the year. I participated in Round F and solved 2 out of 3 problems completely. My score was 48 and rank was 124.  Google's team came to our campus after this round F for giving a pre-placement talk. They officially announced that they will consider the upcoming Round G for shortlisting for interviews. I participated in Round G and got a rank of 496 after solving 1 out of 3 problems completely. My score was 17. For the coding competition questions, refer to the  archive of kickstart . I got shortlisted for the interv

En route to Microsoft Data Scientist

In this post, I'll be talking about the selection process of Microsoft for data scientist profile in IIT Bombay. Microsoft visited our campus for recruitment in two profiles:  Software Developer Data Scientist I will mostly be talking about the selection process of the data scientist profile. First Round - Online Coding Test and Data science MCQs For Software Developer profile, we had three coding questions to solve on  cocubes  platform. All the students were having a different set of questions.   Find the distance between two nodes of a binary tree   Given a string s, find the next permutation of s Parse a string s and convert numbers into their corresponding characters, remove the whitespaces and number followed by hash # is not converted into character. Sample Input -  3 2 20_21 # 1 # 2_#11 4 @11 Sample Output - CBT U12 11D@H For Data Science Profile, there were a lot of MCQs on general Machine Learning concepts like AUC-ROC curve,L1/L2 R

Journey to IIT Bombay

I am currently pursuing my M.Tech in CSE department as a RA(Research Assistant) from IIT Bombay. So, today i am going to share my interview experience and my journey to IITB. I passed my B.Tech in 2016 from Kamla Nehru Institute of Technology, Sultanpur (Uttar Pradesh). I gave GATE 2016 and got AIR 482 with a gate score of 737/1000. I got an interview call from IIT Bombay for RA (i.e. a 3-year Programme) on 19th April 2016 and the interview dates being 18th May 2016 and 19th May 2016. So, i was informed one month earlier about the interviews. What is RA?
